Luke 9:25
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?
When you get finish chasing after the things of this world, why not give God a try? True inner peace begins when you have a right perspective of who God is and begin to nurture a real relationship with Him. What do you know about God? Do you see Him as a hard taskmaster that issues out punishments and curses? Do you see Him as some far away being that does not really care about you? Or do you see Him as a loving and forgiving Father that understands that His child is not perfect? Do you know that He wants only the best for you and has no desire to cause you distress or fear?
What happens if you spend your life in search of worldly gain (money, fame, etc.) but find that although you can buy a lot of stuff, you are unable to buy happiness and peace. You find that the people around you are not people you can trust. You find that you are spiraling down and feel empty and broken and when all the stuff is gone, you find yourself alone.
Make a deliberate decision to begin a relationship with God by acknowledging the Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died on the cross so that you could have a relationship with God. He paid for the sins you committed so that you would not have to go to hell. Once you accept that fact, simply ask God to forgive you for your wrong doings and inviting Him to take over your life. This is not a feeling; it is a conscious choice to live a life according to the will of God. This is an act of faith. This choice has nothing to do with church, it has everything to do with choosing to be in an active relationship with God. Once you make that request of God, you must truly believe and know that you now have a relationship with God. You do not need to try and act like anything other than yourself, but you must begin to have conversations with Him, which is prayer, and you must begin to read and study His Word found in the Bible.
You do not have to quote a bunch of scriptures to talk to God. Just speak to Him openly and honestly. You can be respectfully raw with God and He will honor that. Reading and studying His Word, the Bible, will give you a true prospective of just who God really is in your life. Do not compare your relationship with God to that of anyone else. Your relationship with Him is personal so don't compare it to anyone else. You don’t have anything to lose but a life-long relationship with God to gain.
I’m just sayin…
