HOW SALTY ARE YOU?

by Angela Miles

A jar of spilt salt

When I was a child, my grandmother taught me how to make the best chicken ever. One thing she taught me was to ensure that I seasoned the chicken properly. Unseasoned chicken was simply not worth eating. Unseasoned chicken is bland and does not make anyone want to experience eating the chicken again.

The same is true for our relationship with God. If our relationship with God does not show that we are seasoned with His peace, love, joy, and grace, no one will want to partake of it. No one will ask you for the recipe. Matthew 5:13 says that we "are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

That means that anyone proclaiming to be a disciple of God should be living a life that expresses the glory of God. Their life should be flavored with peace, grace, mercy, joy, and especially love, and if it is not, what is the point of the relationship.

If you are a disciple of God, a believer of God, a son/daughter of God, let me ask you, do people look at the flavor of your life and want a relationship with God? Or are they left feeling like they have experienced bland, unseasoned chicken? The question of the day is, spiritually, how salty are you? It's never too late to add some seasoning to your walk.

I'm just saying...
